2008 XC70 AWD wagon













2008 XC70 AWD wagon, an off-road-oritented variant of the the recently-revealed 2008 V70. Power comes from either a 3.2-liter straight six-cylinder gasoline engine or a 2.4-litre five-cylinder D5 turbo diesel engine. The D5 turbo diesel offers 185 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, while the I6 model delivers 238 horsepower and a zero to 60 mph time of 8.1 seconds with a six-speed automatic. The Volvo XC70 can also be equipped with a number of advanced electronic driving systems including Volvo’s award-winning BLIS (blind spot information system), HBA (hydraulic brake assist), OHB (optimised hydraulic brakes), ACC (adaptive cruise control with collision warning and brake support), active bi-xenon headlamps, radar-controlled collision warning, emergency brake lights, all-round laminated glass and Volvo PCC (personal car communicator), which is used to lock and unlock the car as well informing the owner if the alarm has been triggered or, using a heartbeat monitor, to detect if someone is in the car.

Following the lead of its Audi subsidiary, Volkswagen has debuted a new race-inspired concept at this week’s Wörthersee Tour tuning show in Austria. The latest concept is the new VW Scirocco GT24, a road-going version of the carmaker’s new Scirocco race carNurburgring 24 hour endurance challenge.


According to VW, the new concept is a preview of a future Scirocco ‘R’ sports model and is powered by a tuned 2.0L TFSI engine with 325hp on tap. Drive is sent through the front wheels via an upgraded dual-clutch gearbox with new clutch plates, revised gear ratios and a lightened flywheel. that’s set to compete in this weekend’s


Like the racing Sciroccos, the new road-going concept features the same modified body shell so it stretches an additional 227mm in length over the production car and features a 61mm wider track. It also gets modified sports suspension with adjustable race dampers lowering the car up to 75mm. The wheels are 18in with 362mm (front) and 255mm (rear) brakes.


The interior is completely stripped of all luxury amenities, enabling the concept to weigh in at a scant 1,120kg (178kg less than stock). There is however a new rollcage, Recaro seats, a carbon dash, new steering wheel, electronic display and fire extinguisher.

Original: The electric sports car segment is about to heat up with the announcement that UK’s Lightning Car Company is now taking pre-orders for its all-electric GT ahead of a scheduled launch date in early 2009. We first reported about the Lightning GT in June of last year but since then the car’s design has been given a total revamp and final production specifications have been confirmed.Powering the GT is a new 700hp electric powertrain featuring nano titanate battery technology, which is enough to propel the car from 0-60mph in a flat four seconds and take it a top speed of about 130mph. The electric drive system, dubbed Hi-Pa Drive, packs four permanent magnet brushless motors developing at least 120kW in each wheel and features full traction control and regenerative braking on all four wheels independently.read more
